The challenge of imbuing a rejected shard of stone with sense of presence, through minimal intervention, gives me much pleasure. I use the Direct Carving approach – ie, shaping the stone with no prior planning, seeing where the tools and stone will take me. I stop the moment I see spirit, before I muffle it through further refinements.
The green colouring is natural growth from the stone having been left outside over time.
