Artist Bio
Lucy Churchill is a British sculptor and art activist whose work celebrates women’s bodily autonomy by reimagining traditional imagery from a contemporary perspective.
Her deep understanding of archaic form derives from a 30-year career as a classically trained architectural and memorial stone carver.
The #MeToo movement prompted her emergence as a feminist sculptor; carving directly into the stone became her method of catharsis. While autobiographical, her artwork addresses the experience of many.
Lucy Churchill’s practice has evolved to include a variety of materials and approaches: from monumental to portable sculptures in stone and bone, two-dimensional art, and film. In 2025 she formed Make Your Mark, an interdisciplinary collective creating data-driven art to highlight the prevalence of s3xual abuse.
Recognition includes an Arts Council of England DYCP award and an Artist Residency at York St John University, exhibitions in London, York and New York. In 2026 Carrie Scott included Lucy Churchill in Seen’s list of twenty ‘artists to watch out for’.
